Field Safety Policy (WIP)
Field work presents unique situations, which could sometimes cause lab members to feel uncomfortable or even unsafe. To mitigate risk, we require Baltimore Ecosystem Study (BES) field safety training for all lab members working in Baltimore urban ecosystems. The training includes actions or responses when members of the community approach or talk to you in the field as well as development for responses / reports for stakeholders (working on private property, public spaces, parks, nature preserves, etc.). As of September 2020, the Spring 2021 version of this course is still in development.
Current recommendations for urban (and sometimes rural) field work safety include but are not limited to the suggestions in Dyson et al. 2019 (Open-Access).
